I haven’t written in a while because I’ve been too busy art journaling (and writing a new novel). I hosted a creativity/artist retreat last weekend (my first one) and plan to blog about that, too. But today besides writing over 2000 words of my new novel for NaNoWriMo, I played in my art journal. I use my art journal as a reward after I get my writing done (if it’s not too late in the day).

Tonight I started out with this gorgeous mint color. I knew I wanted to focus on creativity and being creative so I liked the idea of starting out with something bright.

I wish I would have taken more pictures of my process (all the different layers) but I didn’t. I’ve been bad about that.

After the mint, I did a deep blue wash over it and then added some stenciling of the little circles with an ocean green. I added orange circles with a sponge to add contrast but I didn’t like how it turned out. I did an orange wash over the whole thing to make the orange circles not stand out as much and I like how it turned out. It also made the ocean green circles stand out more (they’re showing up more orange now).

I printed out “creative girls do it best” along with sparkle, shine and inspire and pasted those on (using gel medium). I like that it had a little sass. I did an over wash over them to help them become more part of the page. I also added some dark blue stencils along the bottom.

Since this spread was all about creativity, I had some fun embellishing it. I stamped on more stencils (honeycombs and words that you can barely see) as well as added green sparkle. I’m pleased with out it turned out. It’s messy and fun and just as creativity should be. At least for me.
